Fort Worth's own version of the snowpocalypse arrived at Wesleyan in the wee hours of the morning Feb. 11. Despite the 2-inch layer of snow coating everything in sight, classes continued as usual until noon.
Provost Allen Henderson noted that out of all the major schools in the area, Texas Christian University was the first and only one to close for the day.
"University of Texas at Arlington, Tarrant County Community College and the Fort Worth Independent School District did not announce closure, and we said we'd look at it again to re-evaluate around 10 or 11 a.m.," Henderson said.
The Wesleyan Emergency Management System notice went out at 11 a.m. informing the Wesleyan community of the closure. All three campuses were closed.
Students were spotted throughout campus enjoying the snow with spontaneous snowball fights and the construction of snow-people.
The library was closed for the day, but students were advised to call security for access to the basement computer labs. Dora's sent out a notice that it would remain open until 6:30 p.m.
“Dora’s will be open tomorrow and through the weekend to serve our campus, although weather conditions could affect hours of operation,” read the e-mail.
The university switchboard contained a message that advises students, faculty and staff to keep an eye on the news for notices regarding any closure or delays. To register for WEMS notices, click here.
